Account Manager
I sent in my application online and the hiring manager emailed me right away about my salary expectations, which they said should be around 70k. Then, a recruiting coordinator reached out to set up a two-hour phone interview. We ended up doing a two-hour on-site interview with four people, back-to-back. It was actually only three interviewers then, but it still took two hours. The people I interviewed with were really nice and gave me clear, detailed answers when I asked about the company and its products. After the interview process, I was asked to do a background check.
- How do you approach learning new software?
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What's your greatest accomplishment?
Engineer
The management in the US was looking for a senior person to oversee Chennai employees while also being able to listen to the US team. It seemed like a typical American decision-making process with an Indian execution center. The HR conducted a thorough interview, trying to get information about people at my current organization. After my interview, I received 3-4 calls from other recruiters, and several friends also mentioned getting calls. It was a clever approach, but they made me wait for weeks or months, likely because they were interviewing many candidates. They have a great product, which is why they were acquired, but it's sad to see no technical leadership in the Chennai office. The people I spoke with in Chennai were the ones I would have managed. There was no clear closure or continuity in the interview process. I was interviewed by my potential boss twice; perhaps he forgot we had already spoken.
- What is your availability to start?
- It was expected that I would have already recruited someone for this position by yesterday.
Fraud Specialist
Got an email from the HR Recruiter about an in-person interview. I replied with my availability and they sent a confirmation, but my name was wrong. I replied again with the correct name, but didn't hear back. On the interview day, I checked in and the HR person who was supposed to meet me said I didn't have an appointment with him, which was weird. The receptionist then found the right person to interview me. I ended up being interviewed by four people in total: two employees, the hiring manager, and another manager. The first two were potential future coworkers. The first interviewer seemed like the hiring manager and took a lot of notes while I answered. The second interviewer was more laid-back and asked fewer questions, maybe because it was near lunchtime. The hiring manager seemed interested in my background, complimented my resume and answers, and I got to ask him questions about the company. The last person was another manager who apologized for being sick and said the interview would be short, only asking two questions. After the interview, I sent a thank-you note to the hiring manager. It took about a week to get notified that I didn't get the job, with no explanation. I thought the interview went well, so I'm not sure why I wasn't selected.
- What's your definition of success?
- Are you successful right now?
Customer Support
The interview process was pretty straight forward. First, there was a short phone interview to get acquainted. The supervisor would then contact you the next day or same day. If you're invited back, you'd speak with various team members you'd be working with (director, coworker, direct supervisor). They ask a lot of questions, just answer honestly. If they like you, you'll know. At the end, I spoke with 4 different people and was basically offered the job on the spot.
- How would you rate your customer service skills on a scale of 1-10?
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer. What was the situation, how did you handle it, and what happened in the end?
