I got to the PI's office on time. He said my experience was good but that was a bad sign. I explained my last two jobs ended due to budget cuts and I always had good performance reviews. He said the recruiter told him I was let go because I was pregnant, which I denied as it's illegal. He then asked inappropriate questions like if I was sure I'd have enough time with a new baby, what my husband's job is, and if I had after-hours childcare. He offered me the job but at a lower salary, thinking I'd be desperate because I have a baby. He also mentioned I'd need to do the ARC training but didn't think he should pay for it.

I applied online for a research assistant role in a biology lab focused on epidemiology, including a cover letter. About two weeks later, I had a 30-minute phone interview. Then, I was invited for an in-person interview the following week. It started with a 30-minute meeting with the lab manager and then the principal investigator (PI), where we discussed my background, education, career aspirations, salary expectations, and the work environment. After that, I got a tour of the lab and met the research assistants. The PI and lab manager departed, and the research assistants conducted an informal 15-minute chat before I was shown out. I didn't get any follow-up, and my inquiries after two weeks went unanswered.
