The interview process had three steps: first, a one-on-one interview, then a shadowing day, and finally a panel interview. I felt like this process took too long. The first interview was a standard one-on-one. They asked me about my interest in sales and how I planned to achieve success. The shadowing day involved accompanying a sales representative to do cold calling around an office building. The panel interview was with four managers. It began with a presentation I prepared myself and concluded with a Q&A session.

Got referred by a friend and the HR Manager reached out. We had a phone interview with standard questions like why sales, your skills, and career aspirations. The first in-person interview was with two sales managers who were aggressive and criticized me for not researching them, which felt like a typical NYC sales tactic. They seemed rushed and uninterested. I thought I wouldn't get a callback, but I did. The second interview was a ride-along day with an inexperienced sales consultant who wasn't very helpful, especially since we were selling copiers which people often don't want. We also listened to some cold calls, but they weren't effective. We did a few face-to-face interactions in the field. Then came the third interview with the VP of sales, who was approachable and explained that the job involves a lot of rejection. This was the only part I liked. After nearly two months, they hired someone with more experience, which turned out to be a good thing because I probably would have hated the job.

Behavioral Technical

Got a call and they first asked if I was interested in a sales rep role, which I declined since I've generated 30 million in 5 years as a manager and prefer that. They then sent me a Chally test, which is a personality exam. With my background in advanced psychology and sociology, I understand how these tests are constructed and could write one myself. The next day, I was told I didn't test strong for sales manager but did for sales rep. I believe this is either because they were looking for an outdated management style (like from Office Space) or it was a bait and switch, especially since they then tried to offer me an entry-level position. I'm sharing this in case it was a bait and switch, as some companies do this with fancy titles.
