I applied online through the Carquest website, completing a basic info form, my work history, and a 50-question multiple choice survey. About a week later, I got a call about the position. The manager seemed a little uncertain about whether the job was actually open because of another employee's work status, but he asked me to come in for an interview within a few days to go over the job details. The interview was basically an intro chat with the store manager where he reviewed my application and the survey results. I got hired a week after that and then trained for a few days before starting my regular schedule.

It was pretty chill. I met with the Regional Manager and the store manager at the same time. The Regional Manager did most of the talking. They like to throw out situations that could happen on the job and ask how you'd handle them. For example, a customer might call with a complaint, and they'd ask how I'd deal with it. They also asked basic stuff like if I know a lot about cars and if I've done any commercial driving before. It was just one interview and they got back to me with an offer in about a week. Like I said, it was super relaxed, they really just wanted to see if I'd be a good fit with the team and someone they could get along with.

A HR person reached out to me for a reference on a new hire and then suggested I might be a good fit for an open position. I then met with the DBA Manager and the Director of IT. They administered a skills test and we chatted about the work environment at CarQuest. The dress code is business casual. IT operates in a cube farm lacking windows or privacy. The management seemed to keep employees at a distance; they were friendly during the interview but very reserved and unwilling to share details. They expressed a cynical view of the technology they'd implemented and expected new hires to maintain it, despite having made poor past implementation choices and now struggling to fix the issues without the necessary expertise.

The application was submitted online and it took a while to get through. I thought the whole process was long and kinda boring. The actual interview was real short, just a few questions about my sales background and also some questions about cars. It felt pretty comfortable though. After they offered me the job, I had to go take a drug test at the local health clinic.
