CARIAD Interview Questions
& Process

The interview experience was pretty good and organized. First, there was Round 1 where they talked about my background and what I'm looking for. After that, I had a second round that covered automation frameworks, API testing, basic networking stuff, and then some questions based on scenarios about telematics and how software and hardware work together.

The process starts with a brief welcome and introductions where you get to know your interviewers. Then, you'll introduce yourself, covering your background, studies, and motivation. The team or department will then explain their work and your role as an intern. Following this, there will be technical questions covering programming, CS fundamentals, and possibly software engineering topics like C++, Python, Java, algorithms, data structures, OOP, and Clean Code, depending on the area. You might also be asked to do a small coding task, write pseudocode, or answer problem-solving questions. Finally, you'll have the opportunity to ask your own questions about projects, the team, or the tech stack.

First, the interviewer introduced themselves and explained how the interview would go. Then I got to talk about myself, my past experiences, and why I want this job. After that, we moved on to some situational questions where I had to explain how I'd handle different situations, like with project management or working with people from different cultures. They also asked a lot about my previous work, particularly in software development and mobility tech. Then came a really in-depth part where I had to come up with strategies for developing new digital mobility solutions using a case study. To wrap things up, I got to ask my own questions to learn more about working at CARIAD and the team.

The interview had three stages: First, a technical interview with two team leads. They started with a case study about designing a system to detect if a car ahead will change lanes, asking about necessary sensors and other options. Then, a coding task in C++ on Onlinegdb, which was very easy, involving the Fibonacci sequence. I asked if they wanted a recursive or iterative solution and implemented the iterative one as requested. They asked about its space complexity, and I explained it was linear but could be changed to constant, which I then did. After that, the technical interview concluded. Second, an HR interview, which I found difficult, with behavioral questions like 'What was the hardest situation in your life and how did you solve it?'. They really dug deep into the answers. Finally, an offer was presented (no negotiation!).
