I was contacted by one of their internal recruiters and we set up a phone call to talk about the job and how my experience is a good fit. The recruiter said the next step was a call with the hiring manager, but it got scheduled for a few weeks later because the hiring manager was on vacation. The scheduled time passed without any call, so I emailed the internal recruiter, but got an out-of-office reply. I tried calling a company number that just kept ringing. I waited for the recruiter to get back from vacation (two weeks after the missed call) and emailed again to ask what happened, but got no response. I messaged the recruiter on LinkedIn, and still no reply. It was a total waste of time. It's really rude to ignore emails and messages, especially when you're the one who reached out to get someone to work for your company.

The interview process was great, even though it took two tries to get the job. I first applied in August after being laid off, with a referral. I got to the phone screen with the recruiter, who was super helpful and honest. She told me they had an internal candidate who was further along, but she liked me enough to advocate for me. They ended up going with the internal candidate, but about a month and a half later, the job was posted again, and the recruiter remembered me. From then on, they kept me updated and gave me feedback at every stage. CarGurus was fine with me asking for information before each interview round so I could take notes and prepare. Each round happened quickly, and they wanted to move even faster, which was fine with me. I had an offer from another company that I was thankful for, but I wanted CarGurus more. My recruiter wasn't put off, thanked me for being upfront, and we were able to have my final interview lead to an offer. Everyone I met, from my recruiter to my current manager and director, was a breath of fresh air. I'd read a lot about the company culture and how it's one of the best places to work, and everything I experienced lived up to it. To be honest, being laid off really shook me, and I sometimes doubted if I was good enough for a company known for treating its employees so well. Turns out, they believed in me, and I'm excited to give them my best.

I went through a recruiter and had one zoom interview. They were really nice, even though I felt underqualified, they stayed interested to be fair. It was good practice because they asked some tough questions that weren't directly related to the account manager role.
