Pricing Manager
So the recruiter hit me up right after I applied, and she laid out what the job was about and what Carfax does. After that, I had an interview with the hiring manager, followed by three more interviews with different departments. The whole thing wrapped up in about three weeks.
- Can you walk me through your previous experience?
- How would you handle a situation like [scenario]?
- What makes you a good fit for this position?
Manager
I applied for a Manager role at Carfax and was contacted by a recruiter named Mark Sturges for a phone interview. We discussed the position and company details. What was cool was we also talked about drive-in movies since I had gone to one at their office's parking lot the previous summer. It was nice to have a real conversation with a recruiter. After that, I had a phone screen with the hiring manager. They explained the role, some challenges, and asked about my experiences and how I'd approach them. It was an interactive discussion. They weren't ready for in-person interviews yet, but Mark stayed in touch. A few weeks later, I came in for in-person interviews. These were "pair" interviews, meaning two people interviewed me at a time. First, two product managers from Marketing interviewed me, then two IT Directors, and finally the hiring manager face-to-face. All three felt like conversations. I was impressed by the people, business operations, and company culture, and it was clear culture and team fit were crucial. I received an offer. Before accepting, I needed to confirm insurance coverage for my daughter's medical needs. Mark really went the extra mile, working with the insurance company to ensure her medication was covered. It was a smooth process, the best I've experienced.
- Which of Carfax's corporate values, as displayed on their website and around the office, do you most connect with?
Manager
I was contacted by the recruiter and initially declined because the salary was really low for the area. They called back a few weeks later and said they'd revised the salary. The 'interview' was held at my home, conducted over webcam, where I had to answer pre-selected behavioral questions. The whole thing was about 2-30 minutes, felt cold and impersonal, and I wouldn't do it again. I didn't hear anything for over a month, then got a generic letter saying the job was filled.
- What are some typical behavioral questions you have been asked?
