Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CARFAX.
Director
The interview process included two phone calls and then a half-day in-person interview. The in-person part got weird when they asked if I was married, had kids, and where I lived. As a woman, that really threw me off. The recruiter was super communicative until they decided not to move forward with me. I only found out because I saw the job reposted on LinkedIn and she had connected with me a week prior, which felt pretty rude.
- How would you prioritize Carfax values?
Director
I had 4 interviews: first, a phone screen with a recruiter, then a phone interview with the VP that the position reported to. After that, there was an intensive (but very positive/constructive) ~4-hour on-site interview with all of the position's peers, 2 of the positions direct reports, an external stakeholder, and the VP that the position reported to. Finally, another intensive (but again - very positive) ~3 hour on-site interview with all of the major VP/C-level external stakeholders that the position would be interacting with. Throughout each of the discussions, ALL of the interviewers were very cordial (even friendly) and professional, were quite happy to answer any/all of my questions, and consistently asked very challenging - but very appropriate - questions of me. I was drained after each discussion, but extremely jazzed to see/hear/feel how real the amazing culture is and gain insight into just how well put together this company is.
- Tell me about how to balance the need for process to enable scale while not doing so for the sake of process and therefore harming the culture.
Director
After talking with the HR recruiter on the phone, I went in for interviews at the office with the VP and some other directors. Everyone was super nice and friendly. Both HR and the hiring manager were really clear about how things worked at CARFAX and what the next steps would be. They kept me updated when they said they would, and I always knew what was going on.
- They wanted to know about my technical skills, and also my soft skills.
- They were also looking to see how well I would fit into the company culture, which was a big part of all our talks.
