Fundraising
I applied online around November and heard back from a recruiter about three weeks later. They set up a 30-minute interview for the week of Thanksgiving, which covered basic questions. Then, in early December, the recruiter followed up to say they wanted to move me to the next round. This involved an hour-long interview with the hiring manager, where they described the role, asked about database experience, and working with fundraisers. I sent a thank you, and the hiring manager replied, but it's been over a month now with no further contact.
- Can you share an experience where you worked with a database?
Executive Director
The interview process was quite involved, including a recruiter screening, two one-on-one interviews, and a panel interview. There was also a reference check and background check. While it felt like a lot, it built confidence in my skills when they offered me the job. Unfortunately, they withdrew the offer just before I was supposed to start, which I believe was due to prejudice, despite their attempts to cover themselves. Their explanations didn't align with the interviews or my references. This experience left me jobless after I had already resigned from my previous role, and it took significant effort to get them to discuss it. This organization does not treat people well, especially minorities.
- How would you address a subordinate's harassment claim?
- What's your strategy for managing individuals with expertise in areas you're less familiar with?
- Could you outline your approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)?
Program Officer
Applied online and did a long pre-screen assessment. Then got invited for an interview. After the interview, background check, and reference check, I hadn't heard anything for three weeks, so I reached out to HR. They responded saying they'd selected another candidate. I get that they might have chosen someone more qualified, but it would be nice to get a courtesy email after getting to the interview/background/reference check stages if you're not selected. The whole thing took two months from applying to hearing back from HR.
- How would your manager describe you in one word?
- What about your friends, what one word would they use?
- And your coworkers, what one word would they use to describe you?
Advocacy Coordinator
I had both a phone and an in person interview at the DC office. The phone interview was informative for both of us as I learned more about the expectations and reponsibilities of the position and was able to share how my background would fit well in that position. The in-person interview was with five different people; there were two in the conference room with me and three joined in by video conference. They asked about my background and also about what I would do in certain situations.
- How would you handle a situation specific to this role?
