First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cardno.
Graduate Engineer
I applied online. The interview process was a phone interview, a video recording where I had to introduce myself, and then a face-to-face interview. The phone interview had standard behavioural questions with the HR team, and they were nice. The face-to-face interview was mostly more discussion on behavioural questions and my past work experiences. However, the engineers interviewing me seemed uninterested, were dismissive or challenged my answers a lot, and were unprofessional and unwelcoming. They made no effort to sell the company.
- Tell me about yourself and your background.
- Can you discuss your technical abilities?
Deputy Chief of Party
So the interview had like two main parts, first a phone call then a team interview in the country. The phone interview was with a bunch of people from the Government of Australia, other partners, and current Cardno employees. They mostly asked about how my past work on my CV could fit with the KSAs needed for the job. The next part was a big meeting with about 20 people applying for 3 management jobs. We got split into groups and spent a long morning discussing and then presenting on practical problems about managing things, designing programs, and M&E.
- Could you outline strategies for addressing community-level project opportunities?
Technician
The interview process involved an initial phone call lasting about 15-30 minutes. This was followed by a face-to-face interview that was a bit longer, around 30 minutes to an hour. They were interested in questions about safety, handling difficult situations with coworkers, and your experience with data processing. They also asked about being task-oriented, working independently without a manager, and how well you collaborate with others.
- If you argued with a coworker on a busy street, how would you handle it?
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- Describe your experience with following groundwater sampling instructions in the field.
Marketing Coordinator
First, there was a phone interview with HR, which was pretty standard and super friendly. Then, a phone interview with the Marketing Director happened. This was also pretty easy, more of a friendly chat. After that, I had to do two assessments: one for Excel and one for Spanish. They were easy but took a lot of time. The final round was an in-person interview with three people. The questions were easy, and everyone was really nice. They said they'd decide the next week, but then three weeks passed and I heard nothing. I tried to follow up a few times, but most of the time, they didn't even respond. It's really frustrating because I put a lot of time into it, and they couldn't even be bothered to reply to my emails.
- Could you describe your Excel proficiency?
- What are your future aspirations?
- What motivates your interest in this role?
