I had two phone interviews for the Captioning Assistant role. The first one was a series of tests including typing, spelling, enunciation, and revoicing. The second interview was more standard, covering my work history, desired hours, and areas for improvement identified by my previous supervisor. It took them a month to get back to me, apparently due to a company-wide outage that prevented calls for two weeks. However, the initial application process was quick; they contacted me the day after I applied, and the second interview was scheduled for the day after the first.

A guy took me into a room and first asked me what the company does. Then he made me do several tests: (1) read a paragraph outloud (2) revoicing - the guy showed an example of the audio and did it himself. I was really impressed by his ability to mimic what was said. The talking in the audio was a lot faster than I expected. It was a good paragraph of talking, and they make you do it for 4 audio files. (3) error recognition - listening to an audio and marking what was said differently on a essay given to you (4) typing based off what you hear - you are allowed to pause the audio (5) spelling test - easy words - maybe pneumonia was the only tricky one

So basically there were a few tests that really tested the skills you need for the job. It was mostly about voice stuff, repeating things, spelling, and a test to see if you could listen to a recording and pick out specific things they tell you to listen for. It all took about twenty minutes, and they let you know right after if you were still in the running for the job, which I guess depends on how you did on those tests. After that, they set up a phone interview where they ask the usual questions, and by the end of that call, you know if you got the job.

Applied through indeed then got a call for another application. A few days later, I got a call to schedule an interview. When I got there, the interviewer asked what I knew about the company and then told me I had five tests to do. The first was reading a paragraph aloud, the second was revoicing audio tapes, the third was finding mistakes in a paper while listening to audio, the fourth was typing what I heard from audio, and the last was spelling. I passed all tests except the revoicing one because you need two perfect files to be hired. I was told I could come back and retake the test, but I won't be. She didn't really try to get to know me or ask about my experience, and I don't want to spend my days listening to calls and revoicing them.
