First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Capstone Partners.
Investment Banking Analyst
The interview process started with a 2v1 with an analyst and associate for the first round. The second round was the same, and then the third round was with a VP and MD. It was light on technical questions, mostly focusing on cultural fit, so be ready for that.
- Can you walk me through a discounted cash flow analysis?
Corporate Restructuring Associate
I applied online and heard back from HR about 2 weeks later. They selected me for interviews. About 4-5 days after that, I had an initial interview with 2 MDs. It was about 30 minutes and focused on high-level topics like why I'm interested in Capstone and Turnaround Consulting, and my background. A week later, I was invited back for two more hour-long interviews. The first was with a VP and MD, and the second was with two MDs again. The questions were similar to the first interview, with some technical questions about 13-week cash flow, but mostly focused on background and fit. I didn't move on to the next step, which would have been a case study. The interviewers were nice, but it wasn't a good fit. I did notice there's no diversity in the FAS group.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in Capstone?
- What makes you want to work in Turnaround Consulting?
- Tell me about your background.
Data Analyst Intern
The first interview was a phone call and it was pretty casual. They wanted to know about my schooling and why I was interested in the company, plus what I knew about investment banking. The second interview was in person and was focused on behavioral questions, with no technical tests.
- Can you describe a difficult problem you faced with data and how you solved it?
Financial Representative
Had an initial phone call where they asked basic questions about my background, both academic and professional. The interview didn't feel very professional; it seemed like they were just trying to fill a spot rather than get to know me.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Do you lean more towards the analytical or commercial aspects of the business?
