IT
met with internal recruiter for 15 min. talked about job, salary requirements and notice/non compete period. I informed her of my period of 5 months and she was apparently fine with that; not too bad compared to some other companies. Had interview scheduled for next round. After waiting for 15 minutes, contacted external recruiter who tried to contact the company. After waiting for 45 minutes ended the video conference. spoke to external recruiter later on that day and apparently the company wanted someone to start right away and didn't like that I had a 5 month notice period. No notice was given to me or the external recruiter, just ghosted me for my next interview. very unprofessional.
- What is your notice period and non-compete duration?
Software Engineer
the interview process wasn't too challenging and the interviewers were very friendly. it seems like a good fit for someone interested in finance because you need to show understanding of finance concepts and explain your motivation for joining the field. you'll also need to be comfortable talking about your background.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- Could you elaborate on your previous experiences?
- What makes you want to pursue a career in finance?
Investment Intern
Started with an online assessment that had 1 database question and 2 coding questions. Then I had a call with an HR recruiter that lasted about 15 minutes. After that, there were two back-to-back technical interviews with analysts from the investment teams, each about 30 minutes, where they asked about my previous experience. The final step was an interview with HR for placement.
- What's the expected number of times I need to flip a coin to get three heads?
Quantitative Researcher
Had an initial call with HR. Some red flags popped up early, like them saying "We like people who work hard" and "We are looking for quants to start immediately." This struck me as odd for a serious trading firm, given that non-competes are usually a year long in this field. It made me think the work-life balance might be poor and they might not be invested in talent or the business long-term. I went to their office, even twice, because they "like me." After that, they ghosted me with no feedback, despite multiple follow-ups from my external recruiter. It felt like a complete lack of respect for candidates. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't end up going there.
- Some easy quantitative interview questions were asked.
