First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Capital Michigan.
Marketing Coordinator
I really enjoyed the interview experience from when I walked in to the final process. There was a bit of a wait, however they offered me coffee and water. They made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I loved the front desk lobby staff. She talked me and really settled my nerves. I am a graduate of CMU and have been interviewing at multiple marketing firms, but Capital made me feel like family than just another interview. It was a 2 day process for me and they even treated me for coffee. I thought that was a nice touch and was down to earth. They were very transparent about what exactly was expected from me and took the time to ask me what my goals are. It felt more personable than a normal interview.
- Could you describe yourself in terms of leadership qualities?
Customer Service Representative
The interview had two rounds. First was a quick 15-20 minute get-to-know-you chat, like a phone screen. The second round felt more like a sales pitch than an interview. About 5 of us who got called back were interviewed individually over coffee the same day. The job itself is door-to-door sales for AT&T, so it's a sales role, but it was first described as more of a marketing job. The interviewer did most of the talking, and it was tough to ask questions until the end, even though I asked about the pay structure early on.
- Basic questions about myself.
Management Trainee
I interviewed with Capital Management on a Friday and they called me back for a second interview the following Monday. They said they would call me the night after my second interview with an offer and wanted me to decide that same day. I feel like it’s pretty standard to give a candidate a week, or a few days at least, to make this type of decision. Accepting a full-time job is a big commitment, and any strong candidate is likely exploring multiple options. Other than that everyone was really kind and straight forward.
- General personality and job experience questions.
Marketing
The interview process was really comfortable. The person Courtney was very nice and asked if I needed coffee or water. The interviewer answered all my questions without hesitation and related to me personally, instead of just trying to sell the company. I learned about the opportunities for recent grads interested in growing in marketing or general business.
- Can you tell me more about yourself?
- He was interested in learning about me rather than pushing his own agenda.
- He spoke with me on a personal level rather than just seeing me as a candidate.
