First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Canisius College.
Director of Admissions
The interview process was pretty typical for this level of position, starting with an initial phone interview and then an in-person, day-long set of interviews that included a presentation. Two things were a bit different though - they actually called my references before they even scheduled an initial interview with me, and after my in-person interview, they asked me to complete a strengths assessment.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Software Engineer
I applied and went through an initial interview. However, it took 2-3 weeks to hear back between interviews, and I felt strung along. I'm not sure if this was intentional or due to disorganization, but I was frustrated. As a donor and alumnus, this treatment was disappointing, and I worry about other candidates without connections.
- What are your 5-year career aspirations?
Stationary Engineer
The interview process was structured. They asked about my experience and gave me some scenario-based questions. For example, 'If a boiler is going to explode, what do you do?' The answer was to kill the power. It was pretty easy and laid back. There were two people interviewing me, both chief stationary engineers with over 20 years of experience. They were really nice and easy to talk to. They offer a 90-day training period because there's a lot of equipment on campus. They have every type of equipment you can imagine, which is great for someone who likes to take initiative.
- Can you tell us about your previous experience?
- What would you do in a situation where a boiler is about to explode?
- Do you have any issues with working different shifts?
Business Unit Job
It was a simple process with a phone call first, then two in-person interviews. They asked specific questions about who you'd report to, which kept changing right after you were hired. Otherwise, the interview process was pretty straightforward.
- What are your thoughts on working for a Jesuit institution?
