After you submit your resume and cover letter, a recruiter or hiring manager will look at your application. If it looks like a good fit, they might give you a call or email for a quick chat. Then, there's usually a short phone call (about 15-30 mins) with a recruiter or HR person. They'll ask about your background, what experience you have, what you're looking to make, and when you can start. This is to see if you're generally a good match before they move you on. The first actual interview could be over the phone, video, or in person, and it might cover technical stuff or behavioral questions.

This was one of the best interviews I've experienced. It was a really detailed and well-balanced interview, covering both technical and personality aspects. The people I spoke with were very mature and sensible. They actually wrote down everything I said! The interview lasted for an hour and included about 15-18 questions. Although I didn't get the offer, I was really impressed with how they managed the whole process. I compared it to 5-6 other firms I interviewed with around the same time, and their interviews were garbage compared to Canadian Tire's. Side note: I was 45 minutes late because of the first snowfall, but they were incredibly understanding and still gave me the full hour as promised in the email. Overall, I was very satisfied with the interview experience. Based on the questions, I suspect I might not have met all their expectations. I wish more companies conducted interviews the Canadian Tire way – it was mature, sensible, comfortable, and completely professional.

The interview starts with a phone chat with HR. If that goes well, you'll move on to an in-person meeting with a couple of managers. You'll get a business case to work on and then present it to them. Sometimes, they might send you the case the day before to give you a head start.
