First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Calvetti Ferguson.
Audit Manager
I reached out to a recruiter I know to see if she was aware of any openings. Calvetti Ferguson didn't have anything posted, but she thought I'd be a good fit and reached out to them on my behalf. I had an interview scheduled within 2-3 days. The interview was with two of the partners, interviewed separately but during the same visit. It was mostly a casual chat about the firm and its culture. We briefly touched on recent technical accounting changes. I got an offer the day after my interview.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Can you tell me about the industries you've audited in?
Administrative Assistant
The interview process has changed since I was hired. I used a 3rd party recruiter, but now an in-house recruiter is the first person you talk to. She does a phone interview and those who move on usually meet with 1-3 partners/managers and then have lunch or coffee with some staff members at their level. Candidates for administrative roles are interviewed by the direct manager and then meet with a group of partners and a group of managers either from the department they're applying to (if applicable) or from the firm in general (if not for a specific department). Offer letters are usually given quickly and applicants typically have about a week to decide.
- How do you manage when things get stressful?
- Are you able to meet strict deadlines?
- Could you describe your preferred way of working?
Audit Senior
I first spoke with the firm's Talent Acquisition Manager over the phone. We discussed my resume experience and why I was thinking about leaving my current job. Then, my resume and the feedback from the Talent Acquisition Manager went to the Firm Partners to see if I'd be invited for an in-person interview. My initial meetings with two audit partners were fantastic and really engaging! They asked about my resume experience, why I was considering leaving my current firm, the culture at Calvetti Ferguson, and my general knowledge of the firm, its recent acquisitions, and client portfolio. The next day, though, I had a phone interview with the office managing partner. He was the complete opposite of the two audit partners I met the day before and didn't seem to understand the culture. The office managing partner was way more focused on why my GPA wasn't on my resume instead of my technical knowledge, experience, training, and abilities to do the job, or if I'd be a good cultural fit. Also, he noted my affiliations and extracurricular activities listed on my resume. After talking with the office managing partner, I realized his questions were totally off-base and unprofessional. He was very insistent and direct about the other two offers I had and demanded to know which firms had extended them. After that call, I decided I wasn't interested in continuing with this firm.
- Can you explain why your GPA is not listed on your resume?
Intern
The interview process was straightforward. I felt like they weren't too keen on my school, which they kept bringing up. It seemed like all the interns they hire come from the same few Texas schools and are often part of a fraternity or sorority, so it wasn't very diverse. It felt like a tight-knit group, much like high school or college. The interviewer was pleasant but didn't seem very excited about me, making me think my resume might have been pulled up by accident.
- Can you introduce yourself and talk about your background?
- Could you elaborate on your educational experience?
