First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at California Lutheran University.
Director
I had a horrible candidate experience, spending hours across multiple rounds of interviewing with about 15 people. They then ghosted me. There's a lot of controversy, politics, and internal conflicts of interest that are noticeable. This university and its recruiting process should be more progressive and candidate-friendly, focusing less on titles and power dynamics, especially considering they pay below market salaries.
- How do you handle conflicting departmental interests?
Web Designer
This was my on-campus job interview for a web designer and digital marketer role, and it was a valuable experience. The interview process was well-structured, allowing me to showcase my skills and knowledge in both web design and digital marketing. I had the opportunity to discuss various projects I had worked on, highlighting my proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and digital marketing strategies.
- Could you tell me about a digital marketing campaign you found successful and how web design contributed to its success?
Lab Technician
The interview process was pretty straightforward. First, I had a virtual panel interview with HR, the dean, and the manager. Then, I had an in-person panel interview with faculty. I got the feeling they hadn't read my resume after the first interview. After the second interview, I didn't hear anything back, even after sending a thank you note and following up again two weeks later.
- Can you describe a situation where you....? (Behavioral)
Collection Development Manager
I was reached out to via email after submitting my resume and cover letter. The video interview was with my direct supervisor and the head of the department. It was a friendly and straightforward conversation. They were happy to answer any questions I had about the department's culture and management style. I was informed that candidates would be invited for in-person interviews, but I didn't reach that stage.
