First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at California ISO.
Legal Technical Assistant
I found the job online and applied. After that, I had a phone interview that lasted about 30 minutes. We mostly talked about my resume and how my past experience would be a good fit for the role. A couple weeks later, I was invited to a video interview with a panel. This interview was split into two 30-minute parts. The first part was with the department manager and two legal team members. The second part was with the department manager and two attorneys. Again, the interview focused on my experience and my future aspirations. Everyone was nice.

Transmission Dispatcher
I applied online and heard back from HR within 10 days about scheduling an onsite interview, skipping any phone screening. I set it up through CAISO's relocation partner. I got there 30 minutes early to account for traffic and my flight. The campus seemed nice, with employee events happening. I met the HR person after waiting 20 minutes, and they took me to a small room to meet the Operations Director, two Ops Shift Managers, and the HR liaison. They asked questions similar to what others mentioned on Glassdoor. They told me they'd decide in a few weeks. After I got home, I followed up a couple of weeks later to reaffirm my interest. They said a decision would be made in a week. Two weeks after that, I contacted them again, only to find out the person handling my profile was on vacation. I then contacted the HR department directly for a status update, and they said they'd reply. The next day, I got a generic rejection email, 9 weeks after my interview.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a quick decision under pressure and what the outcome was?
- What are the different ways to manage voltage levels?
Market Monitor
This company is clueless about how to interview people, both the management and HR team. The whole process was a disaster. HR is completely incompetent. Unlike regular companies that set up interviews by email, this place insists on calling for every step, which is super inconvenient if you have a busy job or travel a lot for work. Their failure to schedule things properly over email just made the process take longer. They should stop wasting candidates' time.

Intern
I applied online and then HR called me to talk about the job, and after that, she set up a video call for me and the two hiring managers. The whole thing took like 2 weeks. I got an offer the next day after the interview. Everyone was really nice and the company culture seems awesome!
- What would you do if you had a conflict with a teammate?
- Which class did you like the most and which did you like the least?
- Tell me what you know about our company.
