Typically the process is pretty simple. A recruiter or someone will call after you apply, then the manager will call. After that, there's a spatial test that doesn't really measure actual design understanding. I did this test for a company in Ohio, and even though the manager said they were ready to hire me, I never heard back. Very unprofessional. Then I interviewed in another state, and it was the same thing. I do think they have a racial bias there, because I know I'm qualified. I read about it when I was thinking about applying. Before they knew I wasn't white, they seemed interested in hiring me, but afterwards, no communication.

I had a phone interview that was about 30-40 minutes. Then we scheduled a second in-person interview that included a logic test. After that, I had to do a DISC personality assessment and talk to 3 current designers to ask them questions about the job. Finally, there was a third in-person interview to go over the results. I got the job offer after the third interview.

It was a really nice and conversational interview experience. They were really focused on my willingness to learn and my design background. It was all done over Zoom, so I imagine it might be a bit different if it were in person.
