First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Calendly.
Quality Assurance Engineer
I had a call with a recruiter and then a call with the hiring manager. Next, I completed a take-home test where I had to write bug reports and some automated tests for a basic webapp. Then, over a few weeks, there were panel interviews with two interviewers each, totaling about 3 hours. They were pretty fast with an offer after that. Keep in mind they ask for four references, so be ready for that. The recruiting team was super communicative; I even got startled by their 'thanks for your time!' email after my first panel interview because I thought it was a rejection. But it was just a thank-you note and provided the interviewers' emails if I wanted to connect. They sent these after every panel interview. All in all, it was a good experience, and I took the offer.
- What's your approach to handling multiple urgent tasks simultaneously?
Software QA Manager
Calendly's interview process was super impressive, setting a high bar for other companies. They were really good at communicating what to expect for each interview, which helped me prepare, especially with how tough the job market is right now. It felt like they genuinely wanted me to succeed. Everyone I talked to made me more excited about the company and gave me a better sense of how they live their values and what the work environment is like. Make sure you have good questions ready! The stages were: a phone screen, a call with the hiring manager, a take-home exercise that was super relevant to the job and current projects, and then a panel with 4 interviews throughout the day (30-45 mins each) focusing on different things with different team members. Sometimes there might be an extra hiring manager call or a closing chat, and then reference/background checks leading to an offer. They are really thoughtful and intentional in their decisions and considerate of candidates' time. I'd totally recommend them!
- Given Calendly's focus on organizational fit, did you research the company, its history, and the values it embodies, and above all, were you yourself?
QA Engineer
After an initial call with the recruiter, I completed a take-home technical challenge. This was followed by a Zoom call with a QA manager, and then a series of three panel interviews conducted over Zoom. After the panel, I had another Zoom call with the same manager, and finally a Zoom call with a Senior Manager. Communication was great initially, with the recruiter updating me after each round. However, after the last call, I heard nothing back, which was disappointing given the time invested in the 5 rounds and take-home assignment. I was ghosted at the end.
- Would you rather work in a fast-paced or a slower environment?
- What are your first steps when joining a new company?
- What would be a red flag that would make you leave a company after starting?
