Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CAL POLY.
Student Assistant
I had one interview, and it was in person. I met with a group of people who are currently student employees and also some full-time staff members. They asked me questions about different scenarios. I heard back about their decision within a week.
- What would you do to entertain a group of people?
Student Assistant
The interview process was pretty much what I expected and went really smoothly. They asked me about my experience with admin tasks, my typing speed (WPM), how good I am with Excel, and a bunch of other stuff. I also had to talk about my strengths and give examples. Plus, they wanted to hear about a tough time I had at work and how it made me a better leader for my team.
- Can you tell us about your strongest qualities and explain their significance to you?
- Tell us about your best qualities and why you think these are important to you.
Student Assistant
I applied online and then got a call to set up an in-person interview. I went to the office and talked for about 30 minutes. It was mostly a chat about me and how I'd handle different situations. The interviewer was friendly and made it feel like a relaxed conversation about the job.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
