First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cal Performances.
Usher
It was a friendly, easygoing interview. They asked me some basic questions about my customer service background and if I liked art or performance. They also wanted to know my availability, including my start date and my schedule for the week, and they asked about my work ethic and teamwork skills.
- Can you share your experience working with people?
- How would you manage a team of ushers, especially if they have more experience and are older than you?
Front of House Staff
I talked with about 5 or 6 staff members, who each took turns asking me different questions. They were really nice and made me feel welcome. It seemed like they really cared about what I had to say. It felt like a family vibe, which I liked.
- What makes you want to work here?
- What's your favorite thing about the arts?
Stage Door Attendant
I applied online and heard back pretty quick, but then my phone interview got pushed back by two weeks. After that, I had an in-person interview with two people from the department two weeks later. They actually gave me an offer right after the in-person interview! Considering it's a student job, I felt the questions they asked were pretty fair.
- How would you handle a situation where a patron is upset and not cooperating?
