CafePress Interview Questions
& Process

I applied online and then had a nice chat with HR over the phone. She sent me a design test, which I worked on over the New Year holiday and submitted. HR then scheduled me for an interview with the team. During the interview, the interviewer focused on questions about my UX experience with Cafepress, asking for suggestions and identifying problems. It felt more like user testing than a typical interview, and they didn't ask anything about my background or previous work. It seemed like they only looked at my design test during the interview itself. A week later, HR informed me I didn't get the job. The design test might have been pointless for them, but I learned from it.

I applied online and HR reached out. First, I had an initial screening with a senior manager, followed by a phone interview with the hiring manager. They then offered a contract-to-hire opportunity and invited me onsite. The onsite interviews involved meeting a backend .NET engineer, a front-end designer, and the hiring manager, which all seemed like a good fit and a fun environment. I also met with the VP at the end of the day. Later, I contacted HR for feedback and was asked for references before receiving an offer. However, I had other direct hire offers, so I decided to accept those instead.

HR recruiter reached out first, we chatted about the role. Then, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager and one of her team members. We went over my work history and they asked some basic tech questions. About a week later, HR called again to set up three more phone interviews with senior folks at the company. They were all back-to-back on the same day, and the tech questions changed depending on who I was talking to. After those, I got a 10-question technical test with coding problems and questions for the job. I waited two weeks after sending it in, then they told me I didn't get the job. No extra feedback.

I met with the VP of Operations and then we did a plant tour. While touring the plant, we talked about the current operations, my responsibilities, duties, expectations and growth opportunities. After the tour, I met with the HR Manager who asked me typical questions about how I would handle people situations. The whole interview took about 2 hours.
