First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cabrillo College.
Instructor
The interview was a panel interview. The panelists asked me questions one by one. Then I had to do a teaching demo for them. They also asked me some questions that simulated a classroom.
- Can you tell me about your teaching philosophy?
- How do you adapt your teaching for historically marginalized students?
- How do you approach teaching students who are facing difficulties?
Student Assistant
I went through the student employment office and picked a position I wanted to apply for. I had an interview right after I sent in my resume and got hired not long after that.
- Why do you want to work here?
Receptionist
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. They asked for my resume and my availability. I did some paperwork, and they said they'd let me know if I got the job. After they offered me the position, I had to go get fingerprinted at the police station. Then they told me my start date. The whole thing, from start to finish with all the paperwork, took about a month.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
- Do you have a good aptitude for math?
- Are your communication skills strong?
Administrative Assistant
So I first had to apply using a paper application that I could mail or fax in, which was like over 15 pages long with all the docs. This was before they had the new system. I had to include transcripts and letters of recommendation. Then I got called for an in-person interview with a panel. After that, I was called back for a second interview.
