I applied for a marketing/film intern role and got past the initial phone screen. During the group interview, I noticed some issues with the company's understanding of different creative fields. I asked about cinematography aspects like camera gear, shooting techniques, and storyboarding, but their focus was on typography and animations. It seemed like they didn't grasp that graphic design/animation and cinematography are distinct disciplines. If you prefer working under a company rather than collaborating with it, Byrne might be a good fit.

First, I had a quick phone call where they asked some basic stuff. Then, the next step was to prepare and give a presentation to some managers and HR in a meeting room. It felt like a lot was asked of me, but it was a good experience because everyone was really nice and helped me feel more comfortable.

I applied online and got a recruiter call a day later. After a phone screen, I went in person for what was advertised as an unorthodox process. It has several steps. First, a group interview with other candidates for the same role. Second, a 20-minute presentation to managers where they asked a lot of tough questions. Third, a 40-hour paid project that ends with a group presentation where you get 'barbecued'. I was nervous, felt unprepared compared to others, and had a bit of an attitude about the group interview. I learned a lot about myself and my competition though. They told us immediately if we were moving on, and I didn't make it past the first round. The whole process felt too extreme and I think they scare away good candidates.

Byrne's interview process is one of the worst I've experienced. It starts with a group interview where multiple candidates are present, possibly for the same role or different ones. Then, there's a panel interview where you interact with several current employees who cycle in and out. Following that is a business simulation, for which you do get paid, but it's a terrible experience. The panel interviews feel disorganized, and it's apparent the employees are preoccupied with other tasks. The business simulation is a significant part of the process for you as a candidate, yet during your presentation, people aren't paying attention or even leave early. It's truly awful.
