It started with a phone screen by HR, then a call with the hiring manager, followed by four separate interviews, each lasting 30 minutes and involving one or two people. Overall, it was a pretty positive and not overly challenging experience. Some interviewers were really engaged and enthusiastic, sharing how much they enjoy their work and the company. However, a few others seemed quite uninterested and almost annoyed to be there, which was a bit strange.

I applied to ButcherBox because I like their product. The interview process involved a recruiter call followed by a call with a technical hiring manager. During the hiring manager call, they went through all the frameworks, languages, and even chat tools they use internally, asking me if I had heard of each one. There were at least 15 such questions. They didn't ask any actual technical questions, which I found odd for a technical role. When I asked about technical debt, they didn't answer. I also asked if the engineers were talented, but they changed the subject to inclusion and diversity. I got a rejection email two days later and they ghosted me when I asked about future opportunities.
