First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Burson-Marsteller.
Intern
I had one interview in total. First, I talked to the executive assistant, and she started by asking me to introduce myself, which is pretty standard. Then she spent a lot of time telling me about the job and what's expected of an intern, which sounded pretty good. She also mentioned that interns usually get to leave on time, which was nice to hear. The thing is, she talked way more than I did! After that, I spoke with the branding department manager, and I thought it was going well until she asked me to speak in Mandarin. I'm usually good at talking, but I hadn't prepared to speak Mandarin, so it was a bit of a failure.
- Can you introduce yourself in Mandarin?
Intern
I applied back in January 2014 and heard from HR via email in February to set up an initial phone interview. That call was pretty laid back, the person was really nice. About two weeks after that, I got another email. It said my application, along with a few others, was passed along to a practice for their review. Then, I got an email from the practice to set up a phone interview with some of their team members. They were super chill and friendly, no curveballs at all. We mostly talked about my past internships and how they'd connect to the work at BM. After waiting anxiously for a few weeks, HR called me in early April to let me know I got into the program.
- How do you show your creativity?
Summer Intern
The first step was an HR screening, which was pretty easy, no tricky questions. The interviewer was really nice and friendly, making it feel more like a chat. It took about 30 minutes. She didn't share much about the job or the company, so I ended up asking her some questions. Overall, it was a pretty standard phone screen. Sadly, I didn't get any further, likely because I hadn't done an internship before this one.
- Can you share some of your leadership experience?
- Can you tell me about your writing experience?
- What motivated you to apply to Burson?
