First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Burlington.
Allocation Intern
The first interview was a HireVue recording, which they wanted completed within 48 hours. Following the questions, there were some games to play to assess skills and personality.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated adaptability?
- Describe a situation where paying close attention to detail was crucial.
- Can you provide an example of how you collaborate with others?
Cashier Associate
I thought I had booked a phone interview for a cashier role, but when I got there, they told me they were only hiring for back-of-house positions. They also mentioned that the hours are variable, with a maximum of 20 hours per week, and the pay is really low. I was told to dress nicely, even though what I wore felt appropriate for such a poorly compensated job. It's stressful because I'm older, have bills to pay, and the wage hasn't kept up with the cost of living increases since Covid.
- How would you handle an angry customer?
Merchandising Assistant
Had 2 interviews. The first was a big group interview, and at the end, they told us the jobs were seasonal, which was unprofessional. Then I got called back for a permanent position. They said I'd be a merchandiser and told me the hours. I filled out a background check right away. The next week, they hadn't received it. I called twice the following week, and they kept saying they'd ask HR or a supervisor why it was taking so long. After weeks of calling about the background check, I never heard back. It was unprofessional and a waste of my time. Who hires someone and then never calls them back?
- Were the questions asked very easy?
Receiving Associate
I went to the back office and met with the receiving manager and hiring manager. The receiving manager asked me questions, and it was pretty casual and quick. After that, the hiring manager reviewed some store policies with me.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
- What makes you a better candidate than others?
- Do you understand the physical demands of this job?
