First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Burke Williams.
Front Desk Receptionist
You start by applying online or via referral. Then, a recruiter or manager will reach out to set up an interview. The first interview is about your customer service background, how you multitask, and if you're a good personality fit. The second interview is more in-depth, with some role-playing to see how you solve problems and communicate. If everything goes well, you'll get an offer within a week. They really want to see if you're professional, good with customers, and can fit into a luxury spa vibe.
- Tell me about how you manage difficult customer interactions.
- What are your strategies for dealing with demanding customers under pressure?
Esthetician
I was hired last year in June of 2021 and had to relocate for this job. The trainers were young and seemed threatened by me, making onboarding difficult. They also didn't follow standard precautions and Covid Guidelines, leading to a two-week shutdown. There's discrimination based on race. My formal complaint to HR was ignored, and I faced more discrimination and retaliation. I still haven't received pay for the week before the shutdown, and they mishandled unemployment claims, breaking policy. HR has been unresponsive to my emails and calls. I'm considering legal action against the company for their poor business practices and discrimination.
- Are you open to relocating?
Massage Therapist
So I got called for a phone interview first, then a face-to-face with a practical test, and then another face-to-face with another practical. This whole thing took about 2 weeks. I really thought I had the job 'cause they kept calling me back! The first face-to-face was with HR and she felt kinda condescending. She asked about my commute, and I said 30-45 mins. She was like, 'but that's 60 miles both ways, are you sure you can do that?' and kept asking if I was sure I could handle it. Like, I wouldn't have driven 2.5-3 hours if I didn't think I could. The first practical was 20 mins and went well. Then I had a second face-to-face with the manager and another practical, this time 50 mins. I got more critiques from her, which is fine. The issue is my limited availability, which I get isn't ideal. But they assured me they'd call after speaking with the GM. I NEVER got a call. If you don't think I'm a good fit, fine, but don't have me do 5 interviews and not even give me the courtesy of a call back. I feel like if I can be professional, you can too. Maybe I dodged a bullet though, reviews aren't great.
- What's your motivation for being in massage therapy?
Massage Therapist
I met the recruiter at my massage school and had been interested in applying. Went to a job fair at the spa and when the massage manager was free, she introduced herself and took me to her office for the interview. She took about 30min to get to know me and for me to ask questions. There were a couple people waiting for interviews, so the manager scheduled me for a practical the next day. Practical was 25min which I appreciated. She gave me some feedback, then introduced me to their general manager. He was direct but kind, and offered me a job.
