I've interviewed twice at BHCC, once a year apart. The first time I did an adjunct training, but there was no one available for a teaching demo. Nothing came of it. A year later, BHCC needed an adjunct for a course I was already teaching elsewhere. I rearranged my travel plans for their schedule, had a good interview and demo. The relevant dean asked for my availability for other courses, and then I never heard back. While I get that my schedule might not have matched their needs, it was odd and unprofessional not to update me. Since this happened twice, I'd be hesitant to apply again. It's a shame because community colleges are important, and BHCC has a good reputation. I currently teach at two other local institutions and never had this issue.

The interview process felt rushed and disorganized. Candidates were divided among hiring committee members, had to hurry between unscheduled rooms on different floors, and waited in offices to avoid seeing other candidates. The questioning was rushed, with no time for proper responses, and the panel skipped follow-up questions due to time constraints. First and second-round interviews were combined on the same day to save time. Notably, there was no initial phone screening; instead, candidates were brought in for in-person interviews from the start, despite the cost. A presentation was also not part of the process.

I had two interviews with a faculty member to teach an engineering class for one semester. I went down there twice and made it to the final interview round. I was told I would hear from them later that afternoon and would have to get the lab key that day since class started the following day. I thought they were sure to hire me since I went down there multiple times, but they called me an hour after I left to decline and wouldn't say why. Between these interview rounds, the 'adjunct academy' group interview was canceled at the last minute. The interview was too much work for a position that only lasted one class for one semester.

  • Prepare a 10 minute teaching presentation.
