First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bucks County Community College.
Coordinator
Got contacted in 2 days after applying. Phone interview was set for the next week. The interview had four questions, and I didn't get much chance to show my strengths. They said finalists would be contacted within a week, and if I didn't hear back, I should assume I wasn't chosen and not to contact HR or the hiring manager. Because I've had experiences where 'next week' turned into months, I asked about a good time to follow up, and they said not to. I couldn't tell how they felt about my answers, and I had no clue if I'd move on. Since I haven't heard back, I figure I didn't make it, even though I have qualifications for this job that probably not many others do (maybe that's why they contacted me so quickly). This makes me wonder if they already decided to promote someone internal, and the phone interview was just a formality.
- How would you handle Situation X?
Instructor
The Dean and Coordinator interviewed me. I was asked about my education, experience, teaching style, and strategies. We also discussed course scheduling and job expectations. I was hired a few days later. After that, I had to submit syllabi for approval and attend mandatory in-service training. Like any new teacher, the first few semesters were tough but I got used to it over time with more experience.
- Can you tell me about your experience and what teaching strategies you might use?
- What are your expectations for scheduling courses and for the job?
Counseling Intern
The interview process was really thorough, with a lot of questions that made me think. They weren't trying to trick me though. It's a good idea to know the school's mission and research the department beforehand. I felt pretty confident because I was prepared, and the supervisors I talked to were really nice and genuine.
- Can you share three words that describe you and how you work?
Computer Lab Assistant
I got referred by someone who works there, then I called the department head. After that, an in-person interview got set up for later that week. We started in the department head's office, and then went to the lab to meet more people and check out the space.
- How would you describe your experience with students?
- For candidates without previous student experience, how might they answer questions about students?
