& Process

So the interview process kicked off with a HackerRank assessment, then I had a recruiter call, and finally, an in-person interview at their office in Herndon, VA. Everyone I met was really nice. They asked typical behavioral questions like 'tell me about an experience on your resume'.

I got the interview after talking to someone at a university career fair. We set up an on-campus interview for the very next day. The interview was with the same two people I met at the career fair. They asked me a bunch of technical questions, mostly just basic Java stuff you'd find in a textbook, like about mutable data types and the public/private/protected keywords. After those textbook questions, they asked one more open-ended question, and then a coding question. The whole thing took about 30 minutes, and unfortunately, I got rejected after that first interview.

The recruiter initially contacted me for a brief 15-minute chat about the role. An in-person interview was then scheduled for the following week, contingent on security clearance, which I have. This interview was expected to last two hours. Given the secret clearance requirement, I also needed to meet with a security clearance specialist. However, an hour later, I received an unexpected email stating that everything was canceled without any prior notice or explanation, only a dismissive response that 'requirements have changed.' It was a very disappointing and time-consuming experience, especially since the process had excellent reviews.

It was a long process, but a good one. There were 4 parts: a phone screen, a security screen, an online technical interview, and then an onsite interview. The technical and final interviews were pretty chill, and the questions weren't too tough for a regular computer science student. They really care about you explaining how you think, which is super important.
