First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BrownGreer.
Communication Specialist
I had one phone call with a recruiter, and they sent my info to the hiring manager. It took about two weeks to hear back. Overall, it was a good and easy process.
- Can you tell me about your long-term goals?
Claims Specialist
Since this was right out of college, this was an entry-level job. The questions were basic because the position was basic. I sat down with the HR director and talked about my abilities, like if I could use Word and Excel. We discussed my background from my resume.
- What makes you want to be a Claims Specialist?
Human Resources Assistant
I had a phone interview with the HR Generalist. I thought it would be a quick call to schedule an interview, but it turned out to be a surprise phone interview. While surprise interviews aren't my thing, I went through with it. After the call, I knew I didn't want to work there. The HR Generalist seemed to have misread my resume, mixing up my job experiences. She mentioned they wanted to fill the position quickly. She incorrectly stated I'd been at my current job for less than a year when it's actually been two and a half years. She also thought I moved to my current location after an internship five years ago, but I actually moved here three years ago. She said I'd hear back by Friday or Tuesday at the latest, and since it's almost Wednesday, I assume I didn't get the job.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in human resources?
- What are your salary expectations for this role?
Claims Reviewer
I had a phone interview and then an in-person interview with two HR people. Some people were hired as contractors through an agency, but it's better to be a direct employee because contractors get laid off sooner. I wasn't hired at first; I got an email saying I didn't get the job. Almost two months later, they called out of the blue to see if I was still interested, but the salary was lower because they said there was a mistake before. I asked if it was still $30K/year (around $16/hr) and they said no, just sorry, their mistake. They knew I needed a job and were probably looking for more people since they went back to old prospects. I had to take the lower offer of $14.71/hr. I did well and got a small raise later, just enough to cover the increased healthcare costs.
- How do you handle complicated or difficult situations?
