Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Broward County Library.
Library Aide
The whole process from applying to starting the job could take around 6-8 months, so you gotta be patient and keep checking your emails. The actual interview is with a group of people in front of you.
- Can you tell me about your biggest weakness?
Library Aide
Applied through Broward County HR site, received a date and location for a test. At the test, there were 8 sections, each 5 minutes long, requiring completion of as much as possible. Afterward, a benefits and location preference form was collected. Passed the test and had a basic interview. Then had to go downtown to swear an oath of loyalty to defend the Constitution and protect the country from domestic and foreign terror.
- What is your motivation for seeking this position?
Librarian
I had a phone interview with managers from different libraries for Librarian 1 roles. Each manager asked about 3-4 questions in a round-robin style. It wasn't super tough, but everyone applying for Librarian 1 jobs gets the same questions, regardless of their specific area. Even though I was aiming for youth services, they asked me about adult resources. I got the offer over the phone the day after.
- Can you name some business resources that you would utilize to assist a patron?
Library Aide
It was a panel interview, which felt a little intimidating since multiple people interviewed me at once. However, everyone was really nice and welcoming. They asked questions related to the job and how I would handle specific situations.
- Are you familiar with the decimal system?
- How would you organize materials using the decimal system?
