First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Broward County.
Human Resources
Got a bunch of emails and calls from them in 24 hours to set up the interview. After the interview, I emailed the whole panel a thank you, and then followed up 3 weeks later about the decision. No one got back to me on either email. Weird how they can contact you for an interview but not respond after. You'd think HR people would have the decency to reply.
- Tell me about your understanding of employment laws.
- Describe a situation you encountered.
- Tell me about a time you displayed a certain behavior.
Project Coordinator
Applied online and got an email about 3.5 weeks later to set up an interview. I emailed the contact person to schedule, but she didn't reply. She called later that week, acting like I never emailed, which was rude. We scheduled a phone interview for the next week. The interview day was typical. Three people interviewed me and asked basic questions. It was annoying because they asked things I already answered in the 18 short-response questions on my application. It seemed like they didn't even read my application answers, making that part a waste of time. I didn't get the job and still haven't heard back after two months. It felt like they already knew who they were hiring, so the whole process felt like a waste of time.
- Can you walk us through your resume?
- How would you delegate tasks among team members?
Case Manager
It was a panel interview, and they asked a bunch of standard, reasonable questions about different scenarios, my past experience, education, customer service skills, database knowledge, how I work by myself, any certifications I have, what I expect from the job, salary, supervision experience, travel willingness, working hours, documentation practices, client visits, and working with families and their significant others.
- What actions would you take if a client expressed dissatisfaction?
- What kind of training do you find most beneficial for your professional development?
- Have you encountered any challenges when responding to natural disasters in previous roles?
IT Specialist
The interview process was pretty standard. Started with a phone interview, then an in-person meeting. They extended an offer within a couple of weeks. The questions were job-related, focusing on project management and PCI compliance, which I have experience in. The initial offer was on the lower end of their salary range, which they said is their usual practice. I rejected it, and even after showing the cost of living difference, they only increased it by 10K, citing concerns about "making waves." I found this insulting. The organization seems to prioritize tenure over individual merit. I tentatively accepted, and they asked me to come back in person for drug and background screening paperwork. Since I wasn't local, this was inconvenient, but I did it. While the background check was ongoing, I heard nothing, so I called and found out they had issues validating some of my experience. I provided documentation to support it, but still heard nothing. My calls to HR went unanswered, and I had to escalate to the potential supervisor, who just told me to call HR. The HR part of this experience was very unprofessional and left a bad impression. It makes me wonder what it's like working there if this is how they are during hiring. Their culture seemed to have a sense of entitlement, with fake smiles and unhappy-looking employees. I also noticed discrepancies between their website (e.g., tuition reimbursement) and what they told me (they stopped doing it). Overall, a lot of red flags, and I wouldn't recommend them.
- Could you tell me about how you approach conflict resolution?
- What's your background in Project Management?
- What experience do you have with PCI compliance?
