Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brooklyn LAB Charter School.

First, there was a 30 min phone screen, then a 3 question video interview where you could re-record answers (max 2 min per answer), and finally another 30 min phone interview. It was pretty simple, way easier than most.
- Describe what an observer would see in your classroom during a lesson.
- What are your expectations for leadership?
- What is your expected salary range?
Teacher
The HR was inconsiderate. Candidates are advanced past the first phone interview and then instructed to complete a strange 6-minute demo lesson on a one-way interview platform within 24 hours. After preparing and delivering the lesson, and setting up the requested second Zoom interview, the interview is cancelled, and a standard rejection email is sent without any feedback. The way candidates are treated in the hiring process suggests how teachers might be treated after being hired. It's advisable to decline offers from charter schools.
- Describe what your classroom would look like if we were to visit it.
- What would your classroom be like if we visited it one day?
Teacher
The whole thing took like four weeks. It kicked off with submitting an online application, then a quick phone chat. After that, I tackled a take-home assignment and then went in for an in-person interview. They also threw in a final interview. It all went pretty smoothly, just took a bit of time.
