Adjunct Faculty Member
An informal chat with the department head was held. If you have not taught before, you need to take a pedagogy course, shadow a professor, and then do a short interview after the course is completed. If you have previous teaching experience, you will be asked to discuss your past courses taught at other institutions.
- Tell me about your teaching experience at post secondary institutions.
Web Developer
I saw an email on the school mailing list and replied to it. I had a short phone call with someone and we scheduled a time for me to come in. They gave me a short written test covering JS, jQuery, SQL, PHP, and regular expressions. The interviewer reviewed my answers and said they were impressed with the correct ones but wanted to go over the incorrect ones. Many of my errors were due to unfamiliarity with the syntax, and they were fine with it as long as I understood the concepts.
- Can you explain the difference between an INNER JOIN and an OUTER JOIN?
Assistant Professor
The interview process was pretty standard. It started with a phone interview, and then I had an interview with the department's search committee. They also asked me to give a job talk on a topic of my choice, but unlike at many other schools, it didn't include a teaching observation.
- Tell us why you are the best person for this position.
Phonathon Caller
I was emailed by the Brooklyn College career center. After submitting an online application, I had a quick phone chat with someone from the Brooklyn Foundation. I got an email the next day saying I got the job, and then had a training session a few days after that.
- What are two reasons you'd be a good fit for this role?
