There were several steps in the interview process. It started with a screening call, then an initial chat with the senior admin team. After that, I had a call with the program VP and another with the communications team. The final part was a presentation where I answered questions from the program scholars. Before they extended an offer, they did a thorough background check.

There was a greeting. Before we even started, I expressed my strong interests and passion for this position! They really liked that. They asked me questions about my experiences first. Then they moved on to ask me how my previous experience had prepared me for the job. I think they might have thought I was a better fit for another position, so they transferred me there and I got the job!

The interviews were pretty standard for think tanks in DC. But, I really think HR should be the one talking to candidates, not the Director. Most of the rejection email was about optional materials I offered, which they claimed I didn't send. The Director basically accused me of being unmotivated, not committed, and unreliable. I proved I sent them that morning, but honestly, being treated like that is awful. Makes you wonder how she acts when she misses an email from her staff. Really disappointing for a place like this.
