Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brookdale Senior Living.
Sales
The interview process was really unclear, with a lot of conflicting information. It was hard to tell who was making the decisions. There was a lot of office politics involved. Some days it felt like I was about to get hired, but then I was asked to interview with someone new.
- No actual questions were asked. Instead, people talked about how things are and looked at their phones the entire time.
Sales
I had a phone screen with HR that was really nice and felt like a good back-and-forth. They wanted specific examples, no vague stuff. Then I had an in-person interview with the Executive Director, which was a good conversation and included a tour of the whole place.
- Can you share an example of a time when...?
Sales
I had a great initial call with a recruiter from Brookdale who was really professional and warm, and reminded me of myself when I used to recruit. I was really excited because this job is exactly what I'm doing now and I felt like I was a perfect match for the role and what they were looking for. I've always admired Brookdale, so I was super happy to get this chance. The recruiter even said I'd be a good fit for the community I applied to, and if not, she could suggest me for another one nearby. I felt really good about it. Then I interviewed with the Executive Director on Monday (3/24). It was a quick and cold meeting, like they'd already made up their minds. It was a big change from the recruiter call. I sent thank-you notes to both of them after. A few days later, the recruiter told me there were more interviews happening that week and they'd let me know. But then, nothing. To be honest, I got another job offer the morning of my Brookdale interview and held off on accepting because Brookdale was my first choice. It's been two weeks now with no word, and I'm starting my new job next week. I sent one last email to the recruiter saying that feedback is important, especially when candidates are given so much hope. This industry is small and people know each other, so how we treat people matters. Candidates deserve to be treated with respect and kept in the loop. I hope Brookdale learns from this and improves their hiring process.
