First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brookdale Senior Living.
Executive Director
Even though I was promoted from within, I still had to go through fingerprinting and background screenings. This is for resident safety and well-being. The process can be quite long, especially for someone new to Brookdale. Background checks can take anywhere from 1 to over 10 days, depending on names and addresses. Since healthcare is so regulated, a lot of this is out of Brookdale's control. Then there's fingerprinting, a drug test, a physical, and a TB test. This whole process takes time. If someone doesn't pass any of these tests, they might not get the offer. From the online application to getting the offer, it took about 4 to 6 weeks.
- Do you feel you possess all the necessary information and knowledge to effectively perform in this role?
Executive Director
The process seemed at first to be well done. I was interviewed by the recruiter first and was immediately scheduled for an interview with the regional VP. Because the VP was called away, I was interviewed by a "Operations Specialist". I was later interviewed over the phone by the VP and it seemed to go exceptionally well and I was told I would have a new interview with some one farther up the food chain. Although I was told they would soon contact me , all my future e-mails were ignored. I found this to be quite unprofessional. Even if they decided not to go forward with me, I would have expected at least a kind e-mail.
- Can you describe the amazing culture at Brookdale?
Executive Director
If you interview for a leadership position at the community level or higher, you'll first chat on the phone with a recruiter or ED. After that, you'll meet with the regional directors from Operations, Clinical, Dietary, Sales and Marketing, and maybe Asset Management. These interviews usually span about two weeks, though sometimes it's a bit quicker, like a week. Finally, you'll talk with your future boss's boss or a Divisional VP.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a rapid decision without complete information? Describe the action you took and, crucially, the outcome.
