While finishing my junior year, I was looking for a summer intern job in PR, marketing, or both. I saw a posting for an intern role described as "Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising." It sounded perfect. The only thing that gave me pause was a bad grammar mistake on their website. I got an interview really fast, like two hours after applying! The first interview was super short, maybe 10 minutes. A hiring manager asked me some basic questions and then basically ended it. I didn't even get a chance to ask my prepared questions, and she was really vague about the job and company. A few days later, I was invited for a "second round." They said to expect to be there from 9 am to 5 pm. When I got there, I immediately got in a car with someone who had only been working there for 3 months. We spent the whole day driving around Murfreesboro trying to sell AT&T to businesses. Most business owners just brushed us off, which is understandable. We only stopped for lunch, and I had to pay for my own meal. It seemed unprofessional to me, and really told me a lot about the company. At lunch, I asked a lot of questions about the position, but she had no answers. It was frustrating to spend all day with someone who knew nothing about the internship. After lunch, we kept driving around town, ending up about an hour away from the office. Some of the places we visited door-to-door felt sketchy, and I felt unsafe. We got back to the office an hour and a half later than they said I'd be done. Then, they had another interview with me, and I didn't leave until around 7:30 pm, even though they said 5 pm. In this interview, they still wouldn't give me straight answers about my questions, including the pay. I left feeling really annoyed and disappointed. I thought I was going for a PR or marketing role, but it felt like a bait-and-switch to sell AT&T all day. The next day, they called and offered me the job, and I confidently turned it down.

I applied online and within a day they had called me for a phone screening. I was then invited in for an in person interview. They seem to have invited 20-30 people in for an in person interview that day. The in person interview didn't take very long at all. They asked about my background, what had piqued my interest in this position, and they wanted to ensure that I was interested in the position but also growing within the company. Next I was invited to the second round of in person interviews, in which you spend a day with one of their employees. I was placed with someone who had been there for a year and someone they were training. We drove out to Madisonville, Kentucky, and literally spent the day walking door to door to businesses either selling AT&T or checking on their AT&T accounts. Later that night they called me and offered me the position, which I turned down the next morning. The whole process took three days from the initial phone screen to spending the day with them.

I did a quick first round interview with the manager and then a lengthier second interview with their assistant manager. The second interview offered more information on the details of the company's growth strategy and how my role would help.
