Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bristol Myers Squibb.
Director
The interview process involved an initial contact, followed by a first, second, and final stage. It was a well-organized process with clear communication throughout. The interviewers were professional and made it easy to have a good discussion. They shared expectations and timelines right from the start, which was helpful for getting ready.
- What is your level of expertise?
- What skills do you possess?
- How have you managed change?
Director
The interview started with a screening call on MS Teams where the recruiter, who had a throat infection, explained that she couldn't speak much and would send a questionnaire to be completed online. She also outlined the interview process and asked me to follow up if I didn't hear back within two weeks. I sent the questionnaire back, but the recruiter claimed she didn't receive it. I resent it, and she sent an out-of-office reply. I then sent it to the backup contact who assured me it would be shared with the hiring manager. Despite following up twice with the original recruiter at weekly intervals as advised, I haven't heard back, even though it's been over two weeks. It's surprising that a company like BMS would ghost a candidate, especially after asking them to follow up. A simple email stating they need more time or that another candidate was selected would suffice. I've seen similar ghosting experiences in reviews.
- Could you tell me about your general interests related to this role?
- Can you describe your scientific capabilities and your interest in this particular research area?
Director
I found the Director opening on BMS through LinkedIn and got a callback from a recruiter within two weeks. Then, I was passed to the HR team who set up a panel interview for me about a month later. It was a 2-hour interview with 5 interviewers. It was a really nice interview, no curveballs, and I got plenty of time to ask my own questions. HR got back to me in under two weeks, telling me they went with someone internal. The Hiring Manager also emailed me to explain their choice and say thanks for my time. Overall, a really good experience.
- Can you describe a time you made an error and how you dealt with it?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to work with multiple stakeholders.
- Describe an instance where you collaborated on a large project.
