Got an AI email to interview. Asked the recruiter what to expect, no reply. The interview itself was standard questions, and the recruiter thought I was a good fit and would pass me to the hiring manager for an interview next week. Didn't hear back for 3 weeks. When I followed up, I got no real feedback on why things didn't move forward, especially since the first interview seemed to go so well. They just told me I was unsuccessful. Disappointing.

My interview process was a bit unusual. I didn't have the usual HR screening and went straight to talking with the hiring manager. They were great and informed me I'd be doing an assessment. Because I skipped the HR call, I wasn't sure about the salary or which of the two positions I applied for I was being considered for, which is important. The hiring manager gave me the HR rep's contact info, explaining they were dealing with a personal emergency, hence skipping the HR screener. Since the hiring manager said I was moving forward to the assessment, I decided to contact the HR rep myself to get clarity on salary and title, and to let them know I'd be doing the assessment. Unfortunately, two weeks passed with no communication from either the hiring manager or HR regarding the assessment or my salary questions. Then, I suddenly received a generic rejection stating they had chosen another candidate. It was frustrating to be told I was progressing, then get ghosted, and finally rejected without even starting the assessment.
