First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals.
Project Manager
It was like other interviews I've had. I got screened first, and then I came in to the building for the interview with a panel. The whole thing lasted about an hour and a half. I was happy with how it went, seemed pretty normal.
- Could you walk me through your CV?
Ward Clerk
The whole thing was chaotic. I couldn't get into the building for the interview, so I was just wandering around trying to get someone to let me in by knocking on windows. There were two women interviewing me. When a coworker tried to ask them a question, they were rude to her and then rolled their eyes after she left. It all seemed very amateur and unprofessional. The interview itself wasn't too hard, just standard questions.
- What issues might arise if a patient's personal data is incorrect in the system?
- What action would you take if a doctor who has a complete patient list calls in sick?
Medical Secretary
Applied online and got an interview invite a few days after the closing date. The interview panel had two Administration managers. There was an audio-typing assessment and an Excel copy-typing test. The interview went really well but at the end I realised they were hiring internally and I was just a formality. They offered to cover my travel costs, which is pretty rare for NHS jobs.
- How would you handle managing many tasks at once when working with different teams and outside people?
Assistant Psychologist
Interview for AP role in neuro. Some specialist questions that could use prep. As always with AP interviews, demonstrate understanding of challenges working with specific patient groups. Subject knowledge on brain injury and psychometric testing was essential.
- Can you explain why you're interested in this particular position and outline your relevant experience?
- In your opinion, what are the most crucial skills for working with patients who have sustained brain injuries?
- Considering you're about to assess a patient for cognitive testing following a stroke, what is the significance of performing psychometric testing?
