The interview process moves pretty fast, but they really need to schedule more time for the interviews themselves. After the recruiter screen, I spoke with the hiring manager for 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't enough time. She seemed rushed and didn't answer all my questions, which meant I couldn't ask mine either. The same thing happened in the 3rd interview where I had to present two projects and answer interview questions. They only gave 40 minutes for all three, which was definitely not enough. They seemed rushed again, and I couldn't ask my questions. I felt like I had to rush my answers because they were rushing me. If you're going to ask questions and have candidates present two projects, you need to allocate an hour. It's not fair to ask us to do this presentation and then rush us. As part of the process, which also included another interview with someone in marketing after the project presentation, they had me do two projects. They said it would only take about 2 hours, but it ended up taking me a whole day. Companies need to stop this. One project is fine, but two? And not enough time allocated?

You’ll have 5 interviews in total! First, you’ll meet with the hiring manager, then 3 stakeholders, and there’s an optional call to connect with the Head of People. It was an absolutely amazing experience. Probably the best interview experience I’ve had in comparison to other companies. You can easily tell the culture of Brightline from the interview process and ever since working here it’s been everything I expected if not more! (In the best way possible) Everyone here is so supportive and empathetic. They encourage you to take your mental health days and take your vacations. They truly care about you as a person and don’t view you as a number.

I was recruited for a role at Brightline. The whole thing took over two months. It had nine Zoom interviews across different departments, plus a take-home project that ended with a panel presentation. They also had me sign an NDA. I was really into the team and what they were trying to do, but I noticed some things that made me pause. Like, they often didn't communicate much, sometimes kids were in the background during calls, and the interviewers seemed unprepared. About a week after my last interview, they said the team was still into my candidacy, but the decision-makers were out of office again and trying to sort out the budget (which felt like a red flag). The next week, I heard the budget got moved around. They told me, 'That's how startups are, things change fast.' Turns out, they had a big layoff the following month, which kind of explains things but doesn't make up for the long, one-sided experience I had as a candidate.

The interview process was thorough, comprehensive, and extensive. Each team member I met with was incredibly warm and welcoming, with a compassionate demeanor and shared passion for the work. I enjoyed each of my interviews, even though the entire process lasted very long - from July until October. The final stretch was the most disappointing part, aside from not being offered the role, it took over 2 weeks for the recruiter to respond to me after saying there would be a decision at said date, which I fully realize may not have been brightline's fault, but it still seemed like there were some internal conflicting views that spurred the delay and left me hanging for way too long.
