It started with a call from the recruiter, then I had an in-person interview with the team leader. They wanted me to talk about my experience with servo motors, robots, and automation and asked some technical and professional questions about it.

Technical System Design

I had an interview scheduled with someone overseas, but they didn't show up initially because the coordinator didn't know how to set up Zoom meetings. When I finally had the interview, the interviewer seemed very disrespectful of my time and it felt like they were interviewing from a daycare. They barely looked at my resume and didn't ask any relevant questions, plus their communication was terrible. After the interview, the coordinator wasn't even notified it happened and tried to schedule me with the same person again, which I had to work hard to cancel. The person who conducted the system design interview came across as really arrogant, making me not want to work there. I was offered 250K base plus options, but after looking into it, the company is using a SPAC deal, and the options seem overvalued. I'd need four times the options they offered to match my current total compensation.

Behavioral Technical

It started with a recruiter screen, then a few more interviews with people who work around the role. Everyone I met was nice and seemed to really believe in what the company was doing. The first chat was mostly about getting to know me and seeing if I was a fit. They talked a lot about the company and what they do, so I focused on showing I was genuinely interested and excited about BM, rather than just rushing through my resume. Since it was more of a chat than a list of questions, I found it helpful to ask something like 'What part of my resume/experience would you like to know more about, that seems interesting to you for this role?'

The interview started with a phone screen with a recruiter. I felt like I didn't have a chance with this person. After I introduced myself, they gave a long explanation about the company, team, and role, which took up most of the interview. I only had time to ask one other question. At the end, they said they weren't really feeling it. This was the worst interview experience I've had, even though the recruiter had experience at companies like Nike. I'm sure Bright Machines is a great company, but this was not a good experience for me.
