First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bright Cellars.
Learning and Development Manager
Bright Cellars did a great job of creating an interview process that was both efficient and informative. Throughout the course of the process, I met with leaders at multiple levels and was encouraged to ask any and all questions I had. Unlike other interviews where the company paints a 100% optimistic (and often misleading) picture, BC was extremely transparent about their needs, values, and opportunities for improvement. All-in-all, the process was effective, efficient, and positive for all parties involved.
- What brought you to Bright Cellars?
- What's your experience with fast-paced start-ups?
- What's your preferred working style?
Product Manager
A recruiter reached out about a role I wasn't actively looking for, but it sounded intriguing. The whole process was virtual and involved quite a few interviews. I spoke with the recruiter, the CEO (twice), the HR person, the entire dev team, and the cofounder. Despite being told multiple times I was the frontrunner and they planned to move forward, they eventually went silent. It was confusing, especially since the job remained posted for months. I've since accepted a position elsewhere that I'm enjoying, but the experience was quite unusual.
- Can you describe how you collaborate with developers?
- Could you outline your process for gathering requirements for a data platform?
- Which product management book do you consider the best you've read?
Wine Concierge
After submitting an online application, I had a call with the Customer Experience Manager within a couple of days, followed by a second call with the Operations Manager. Both calls were fine, and then I was invited for an onsite interview. The onsite was a bit strange; they asked a lot about my experience with firing people and mentioned low team morale after a recent restructuring. The most awkward part was meeting the CEO. Despite my reservations, I sent thank-you emails to the three interviewers but received no response. A few days later, I got a better offer. I emailed the manager at Bright Cellars to see if they were moving forward, but again, no response.
- Have you ever been in a situation where you had to terminate someone's employment?
Frontend Engineer
I prepped for 14 hours for coding challenges and interviews. I talked to 8 people, including the CTO, across 4 separate interviews. They were impressed with my coding challenge answers, but ultimately said I lacked enough experience. HR did reach out to discuss their decision, which still doesn't make a lot of sense. Don't bother applying unless you are a top-tier expert in the exact field they're hiring for, even though their current employees seem to be fresh grads and you might be more experienced than them.
- Two ReactJS coding challenges were given.
- One JavaScript challenge was presented.
- A CSS design challenge was included.
