Faculty Member
Your interview day will be packed with meetings, mostly 30 minutes each, with lots of admin folks and almost all the department staff. Lunch is also a chance to chat informally with faculty, but you're still being evaluated. You'll meet with the president, the VP of academics, the head of HR, the Dean of the college, and the Department chair. A big part of the interview is a 30-minute teaching session with students. This is super important because both the students and the faculty will rate you, and those ratings really count. Since it's a teaching university, you've got to prove you can teach.
- Could you tell me about the classes you've taught in your current role?
Student Information Coordinator
The interview process started with a Hirevue interview. The questions in this initial stage didn't seem to fully align with the job posting. Following that, there were two interviews conducted back-to-back. The first interview was with my potential supervisors. They were well-prepared and asked relevant questions, and they clearly explained the responsibilities of the role. The second interview was with some of the employees I would be working with, including student employees I would supervise. This second group was less prepared. They didn't introduce themselves before starting the questions, which made it hard to connect with them. Their questions were more general and not as focused on the job details that were discussed in the first interview.
- Tell me about a time you encountered a broken process and what steps you took to address it.
Faculty
If you are local, candidates usually get a face-to-face interview first. Otherwise, everyone starts with a video web conference call with 2-5 faculty members who will ask questions. Then, three finalists come to campus for a series of interviews with the University President, Vice President, Dean, Dept Chair, and more faculty. A faculty group will also have an informal visit with a candidate during lunch. Finally, each candidate will teach a live class to actual students on a topic related to the job, with faculty and administrators observing.
- How would your personal character, educational competence, professional experience, and commitment to BYU-Idaho's mission enable you to excel in teaching students using the BYU-Learning Model?
- Can you share an example from your past work that demonstrates how you collaborated and correlated with colleagues to prepare content or curriculum that you then used to teach, persuade, or inform others in a group or classroom?
- Describe an instance where you taught or shared your work experiences with a class or audience, and received feedback indicating it significantly impacted someone's life.
