Maintenance Technician
Applied for M.T. position and got called in for a mechanical aptitude test. Test had 51 questions, needed a 70% to pass to next step. Electrical and electronics were on the test too, but only for the maintenance engineering technician position. After the aptitude test, had an interview with the skilled trades group. It had a written part and a practical part. It was pretty chill since they know it's nerve-wracking to be in front of 8 skilled workers. They go over questions to see what you know, then they take you around the training center and ask if you know how certain parts work or what they are. You really need to know pneumatic diagrams, at least the basics. Bearings are also essential knowledge. They made the decision on whether you got the job right at the skilled trades group interview.
- Can you tell me what 1 bar is in psi at sea level?
- Regarding a pneumatic piston with a 3" cylinder diameter and 200psi pressure, what force is exerted in the direction without the rod?
- Would that force be the same if it were on the side of the cylinder with the piston rod?
Service Technician
It was a phone call to start-- I spoke with a hiring manager and was asked questions about my automotive tech experience. The position was entry-level with training included. I have extensive experience working on and fixing my own cars which she was willing to speak to management about so I might start at a higher pay rate.
- What automotive work experience do you have?
Maintenance Technician
It wasn't really a full interview, the first thing was an efficiency test. I guess I didn't do so well on it because I never heard back. I have no idea what I scored, and with my technical background I could have been a real asset, but I never even got to talk to anyone about the job.
- What is the voltage of an electrical socket?
